Everybody has a household chore which they can't stand doing... but have to do. Cooking, cleaning, ironing, putting the bins out... Where is this going? Well, I've just had to do my dreaded chore - washing the kitchen floor.
There are some household chores which don't really need much motivation to get done. Making your bed, for example, is just part of my daily routine. I don't even think about it; in fact, I think about it much more if my bed is not made! Other household jobs can be quite fun - I don't mind hoovering... It's pretty mindless, so I can potter around the house singing songs to myself at the top of my voice (because nobody can hear you if the vacuum cleaner is on, right?!) and running over whatever I've got planned for the next little while.
Unfortunately, washing the kitchen floor isn't quite the same... I don't have a mop (mistake number one!) so have to get down on all fours and crawl around the floor with a damp cloth in hand. Upper arm burning, fingers stinging, head spinning - all-in-all washing the kitchen floor is not a fun job (and of course, it feels like a very regular occurrence!).
So I've started to develop positive thinking strategies to accompany my hard graft! One good thing about cleaning the kitchen floor is that it is kind enough to provide instant results. As you crawl across the floor you can see recently visited tiles twinkling in their newly-founded (but desperately short-lived) clean state.
Perhaps that's a bit weak in ways of inspiring positivity seeing as the act of washing the kitchen floor is supposed to leave it cleaner than it was before!
I recently downloaded an app on my phone via AppGratis (which I would really recommend - 1 paid app for free every day!) which is supposed to make me extraordinarily fit, strong, and attractive(!) (though I could always lie to it and tell it I've done a lot more exercise than I have, or eaten a lot more fruit etc...). The app lets you include household chores as well as other activities that you probably don't think of as exercise at all!
Would you believe it, that (without even watching me, or attaching magnetic pads etc...) this magic app knows that I had done enough exercise whilst slaving over the kitchen floor to burn off 125 whole calories! In my excitement, I rushed to Google to work out what I could eat to make up for this tragic loss of valuable calories... I hadn't even burned off enough calories for a snack of carrots and hummus!
Maybe it's best to stick to my original approach of just enjoying the instant results!
By the way, if you made a New Year's Resolution to get/stay fit and need a little extra push 3 months in, you might want to check out this magic app that I've got! Even though I think it's funny that it tries to claim it knows how much effort I put into scrubbing the floor, it is actually very good at suggesting exercises and activities at the right level for you... It's called All In Fitness Pro. If you click on the link you'll be able to find some more info on it :) (All I'll say is that I'm pleased I got it free as it's usually £6.99!)
