What do you think of this?! I don't know what year it was made yet, but it's an old-school gramophone for the old 78rpm records!
My parents bought it for me as a graduation present. It's in full working order, I've been playing a record on it today called 'Hallelujia!' and it make an impressive sound.
Rather than the sound coming out of a horn above the record (as with the HMV logo), this one pumps out the tune from underneath the turntable. This means that the volume can be adjusted (a little!) by opening and closing the wooden doors to the speaker - sort of how volume works on an organ, if you've seen that...
My parents found it in an antiques warehouse and they've left it for me to touch up, so I'm going to wire-wool all of the wooden surfaces to take off the layer of varnish which is starting to crack (it was applied very heavily at some point) and I also need to make a new handle for door to a small compartment which can hold 30-or-so records...
It's a really lovely addition to my antique music technology collection which also includes a portable gramophone from around WWI and a Sony reel-to-reel player from the 1950s.
