I like collecting things... and I like trains! I did an art project based on the London Underground once - it wasn't the most complimentary piece for the LU (it was all about the dirt and the grime!), but underneath all that people complain about - the filth, the delays, the bumpy tracks, the broken escalators... - the London Underground is a really brilliant train system and, of course, a world leader.
The Tube is now 150 years old, and though some parts of the network clearly show this, there is much to be impressed by in the tubes under London. I'd particularly like to visit some of the stations which were closed to the public after the war and bricked up - they must be like ghost stations inside, permanently stuck in a pre-1940s world...
As you may know, the Royal Mail has released a special series of stamps to celebrate our famous train network. The set includes two 1st Class stamps, two 2nd Class stamps and two £1.28 stamps (what are these for?!). You can buy the stamps in a presentation file for about £8, but if you just want the stamps (as I did) they cost the same as the bog standard ones with the Queen's head on!
Have you bought any of the recent special stamp series?
