Just like Ashe Marson, I felt the urge to try something new.
Ashe Marson is one of the main characters in P.G.Wodehouse's novel 'Something Fresh'; the first in his series of 'Blandings' books.
I picked up the book when it was in a sale at a local independent bookshop in Cambridge. It was £3 (all of the Wodehouse books were...) and, since it was the first book in the series it seemed like a sensible place to start!
Without giving away any of the (enjoyingly predictable) plot, 'Something Fresh' is something of a comic detective novel...
without a self-professing detective.
Wodehouse's humour is sharp and perceptive, which I loved! He spots the things that happen everyday and most of us overlook them... It's impossible to read this without your lips curling!
I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series, but I'm slightly sad that it's unlikely that my favourite two characters from 'Something Strange' will feature in the next novel... I can't tell you who those characters are as I don't want to give too much of the story away just in case you decide to give it a go!
You should give it a go - I recommend it!
